Another Mercedes Engine Failure!

No more worry about Mercedes? I doubt it.

My car was sent for second service for 22000km. Cost me around RM1500++.  Left the car overnight and was supposed to be picked up at 10.30 to 11.00am. Upon arrival, I was told the car was not washed yet, should I need it in a hurry I could do without washing the car. We waited for the wash anyway. Like most of the car service centre - not a real perfect wash - two big foot prints were found on the back passenger floor. The staff are very friendly though. They also provide free shuttle service well. On my way picking up my car, we picked up another costumer. From him I learned that he was sending back his two-year-old S-Class for services. Service was done few days back but engine failed to work  while driving so he was sending the car back for second service. His sister's one-year-old E-Class also had engine failure while driving in Singapore.

 

Mercedes B200 Flaw 2014 - My terrifying Near-Death Experience

I bought a Mercedes B200 and got the car on 1 November 2013.  Four times the car engine went dead suddenly while I was driving on a highway at a speed of 110km/hr, and once on busy road at a speed of 80km/hr, once at a speed of 60km/hr.

The car was sent for service. According to the service centre there was a small problem and they have fixed it alright. I was very upset and told them if the same problem happen again, I would return the car.

Unfortunately, it  happened again --  engine suddenly loss power, I was forced to steer to the side of the highway before the car came to a total stop. I almost hit a motorcyclist which was coming out from an exit. Now the car is in the service centre again. It has been a month already but I think they have not figured out what is the problem.


A few days after the car was sent for diagnosis, I did not hear from the service centre until I sent an email to the head office in Malaysia, cc to the head office in Germany. Soon after the email was sent, the dealer called to inform that they would provide an s-class for my use until my car is OK. Thank you very much but I prefer driving my own car. I insist they take back my car and I was told that I would lost quite a lot on depreciated cost for selling a call less than 3 years. But, why do I have to bear all the cost in the first place? Should Mercedes Company be responsible for selling me a car that is in fault? Should they recall the car?

Now the car is still in the workshop, it has been a month already. I can't sell the car in order to buy another car. But, I am paying the instalment for no less than RM3000. Sometimes I would wake up in nite for no reason at all, thinking about this Merz problem really making me very sick and depressed. Shouldn't have bought this car. Me and my family are lucky to be alive and not injured.
Me and my family insist on returning the car to the dealer.  We are very unhappy and not wanting to drive a Merz for the time being. Terrifying Near-Death Experience!

I went to the "Malaysian Consumer Department" in Johor Bahru but they were unable to help since my case involve more than RM25,0000. They suggested that I hire a lawyer.

Been searching on the internet and I have found that there are similar cases happened to other Merz owners.

On June 29, 2012 my Mercedes 2006 B200 came to a sudden stop on the Burlington Skyway. It was a terrifying incident. The new transmission, less than a year old, failed. This was the second transmission. Three weeks after the car was towed from the Burlington Bridge, it was revealed that the flex plate broke and the new transmission needed repair. Mercedes gave no explanation as to why the flex plate broke.
